More About Carmen
I grew up in Berkeley and I received my Bachelors degree in Ethnic studies and my Master’s degree in Intercultural Communications from Saint Mary’s College. I discovered my passion for working with kids in college when I worked as a babysitter, a nanny, and later as a teacher.
My work fostered a dedication to diversity and communication. My research focused on the school-to-prison pipeline and mass incarceration. Learning more about these issues deepened my commitment to educational equity. I previously worked with youth teaching restorative justice, and providing participatory defense strategies to people affected by incarceration.
I have been to over 15 countries and love to experience different cultures and communities. I am a classically trained singer and pianist. When I am not at work, I love hanging out with my family, kitty “Dazzling Diva,” working on my car, and collecting sneakers.
I am excited to bring my passion for working with children and families, along with my commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment, to the Rockridge Little School community.
What’s your superpower in the classroom?
Multitasking
